So here it is again - another year. Jack and I just got back from Vietnam (more on that later), so birthday plans were slightly marginalised until now, but getting presents in bed was enough to get me excited. If you look very closely, I'm sporting some new jewellery, of which Jack is refusing to tell me more than the fact that it's made of gold and a Brazilian tree, and that his jewellery procurer is called Alessandro. So thank you, Alessandro, whoevere you may be!

TESTING THE WATERS

Having taken time off from personal photography and blogging for the past 9 months has left me in a somewhat uninspired place. My portfolio looks stale to me - the photos are either old or impersonal. I'm slowly dipping my toes into the creative pool again, testing the waters, seeing if I can remember how to swim. This shot is a result of that - one lovely Cambridge afternoon, I grabbed Julia and Jack and we went for a wonder with the camera. This shot doesn't go with the rest of the shoot in the slightest, but for some reason, I love it.

BETHNALS

Just over a week ago, I got the chance to shoot the launch event for Bethnals, a startup denim brand, and got a pair of their Pete Skinnies in return. The brand produces beautiful, high-quality unisex denim, which has quintessential London written all over it.

I have somewhat annoyingly-shaped legs and always have trouble finding jeans that fit nicely, so when Mel, the brand's designer, told me the sample pieces were probably my size and that I should grab a pair before I leave, I couldn't help but be a little sceptical. I actually changed into them in a store on my way home to quell my curiosity and - lo and behold - they fit perfectly. And were so comfortable. And looked awesome. And - just - WHAT??? The minute we got home, I made Jack try them on to put the whole unisex thing to the test - another perfect fit. They looked completely different on him, but equally awesome. By now I felt like one of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and had to be restrained from running out onto the street and making random passersby try the jeans on.

THIS FEELING IS BITTERSWEET

Final year took its toll and I've been gone from this space for months as a result, but I am proud to say that as of last Friday, I am a fresh graduate. In my four years at Cambridge, I have gone through the lowest of lows and the highest of highs, but somehow emerged on the other side with nothing but wonderful memories and incredible friends (and also a law degree). That said, I'm now ready to pick up my camera and breathe some life into this blog again! So hello, world, I am back.

INFINITY + BEYOND

So many Jacks, it makes me dizzy! This was fun to photograph + composite, although it's a bit of an imperfect Photoshop job, but I have so so so much to do, you can't really blame me. Thus the weird extended absences from the blog. But I'm slowly (very slowly!) getting my act together and getting everything planned and organised like a proper control freak, as it should be. Anyway, I shot this by literally taking a zillion photographs, telling Jack to take a step back and to the side after each one. Unfortunately I didn't have a tripod on me, so this was dodgily hand-shot and then composed / expanded / corrected... Can you tell which of the legs are fake? =P

Tolik Jacků, až se mi z toho motá hlava! Tohle bylo zábavné fotit a sestavovat, i když to neni nejlépe photoshopované, ale já toho mám momentálně tak moc na práci, že mi to musíte odpustit. Proto ty dlouhé nepřítomnosti na blogu. Ale pomalu (velmi pomalu!) začínám vše plánovat a organizovat jako pořádný maniak - tak, jak to má být. Nicméně tento snímek je složený z mnoha fotek - mezi každou z nich jsem řekla Jackovi, aby šel o krok do zadu a do strany. Bohužel jsem sebou neměla stativ, tak jsem to musela pak opravovat / sestavovat / roztahovat ve Photoshopu... Uhadnete, ktéré z těch nohou nejsou pravé? =P

FEELING 22

So, I'm no massive fan of Taylor Swift, but the fact is that I turned 22 this week and I can't thing of a song more appropriate. Here are a few shots of my birthday outfit right before a lovely dinner + drinks with Jack =) (P.S. Please excuse the half-shut eyes in these shots!)

Nejsem zrovna největší fanoušek Taylor Swift, ale faktem je, že mi tento týden bylo 22, a nenapadá mě vhodnější písnička. Tady je pár fotek mého narozeninového ohozu, těsně před večeří s Jackem =) (P.S. Omluvte, prosím, ty napůl zavřené oči na těchto fotkách!)

A SEA OF DREAMS

I think this is my 50th post - which is pretty cool, but also doesn't sound like a particularly large number considering the fact that this blog is almost a year old (!!!). And speaking of birthdays, mine is on Tuesday, which is somewhat underwhelming. This picture is a part of my 100 series, the rest of which you can find here.

Myslím, že tohle je můj 50. článek, což je fajn, ale nezní to jako moc velký počet vzhledem k tomu, že tento blog je už skoro rok starý (!!!). Když už mluvíme o narozeninách, moje jsou v úterý, což je poněkud nevzrušující. Tato fotka je jedna ze série projektu 100, zbytek najdete zde.

BIRTHDAY WISHES

My 22nd birthday is approaching fast and I'm trying to ignore the thought of my youth slipping away by compiling extensive birthday wish lists. Because, as they say, money might not buy you happiness but it sure can buy you a whole load of goodies. I'm probably (definitely) going to try and get number 3 for myself, and the rest I can only wish for for now=)

Moje 22. narozeniny jsou za rohem a já se snažím nemyslet na své stáří a místo toho sestavovat seznamy narozeninových přání. Souhlasím, že peníze asi štěstí nekoupí, ale na hračičky jsou dost užitečné. Číslo 3 si nejspíš (určitě) pokusím pořídit a zbytek si prozatím budu jen přát =)

BORN OF SMOKE

And so Jack and I ventured into the forest, into clouds of smoke that only lasted seconds, to get these shots. There's a video coming too, but being decidedly more of a photographer than a videographer, trying to do both made the experience very swift and somewhat dazed. We'll see what I manage to put together from the video clips, watch this space!=)

A tak jsme se Jackem vydali do lesa, do mraku kouře který trval jen vteřiny, abychom nafotili tyto snímky. Bude také video, ale vzhledem k tomu že jsem spíše fotografka nežli videografka, snažit se dělat oboje najednou byl velmi rychlý a poněkud omámený zážitek. Uvidíme, co se mi podaří dát dohromady z těch videoklipů!=)

BEFORE + AFTER

I often get people asking me to post before+after images of my more edited shots, so I thought I'd get ahead of the game on this one. Jack and I shot this a couple of days ago whilst the weather played up, making us run back and forth trying to save the camera from intermittent showers. I'm adding this to the Project 100 series, the rest of which you can view on Flickr. I haven't made tooo much progress since posting this, but hopefully I'll get a few more shots up soon!

Často se mě lidé ptají, jestli bych se mohla podělit o "před a po" u více upravených fotek, tak se tedy dělím. Toto jsme s Jackem fotili před pár dny při proměnlivém počasí, takže jsme běhali tam a zpátky a snažili se zachránit foťák před neustálými sprškami. Tuhle fotku přidávám do série Projektu 100, na zbytek se můžete mrknout na Flickru. Od tohoto článku jsem se moc neposunula, ale doufám, že to se brzy změní!

HEATWAVE

These pictures are from a beautiful sunny weekend in Cornwall with Jack and his family. I went down to get away from the city for a few days whilst doing an internship in London to compensate a little for having to spend the two sunniest weeks England has (probably) ever seen in an office. How beautiful is the English coast?

Tyto fotky jsou z krásného slunečného víkendu v Cornwall s Jackem a jeho rodinou. Měla jsem stáž v Londýně a chtěla jsem se na pár dní dostat ze města, abych si vynahradila to, že jsem musela trávit dva nejzasluněné víkendy, co Anglie (nejspíš) kdy zažila, v kanceláři. Neni anglické pobřeží krásné?

THIS NIGHT IS MAGIC

Cambridge briefly came back alive after weeks of all its inhabitants hiding in the depths of its million and one libraries. Its newfound life wasn't long-lasting, as most of us students have by now scattered away to enjoy a summer of freedom before crawling back into the book-clad dungeons of this city in October. But for a little while, celebration was the word and schedules were filled with one glamorous party after another.

These are a few shots from Magdalene May Ball last week. My College throws arguably the most fairytale-like of balls, more traditional and subdued than most, but a truly magical night nonetheless, or perhaps all the more. As beautiful as it is for all guests, the Ball has a special place in my heart because the same event two years ago marked the start of a relationship that I hope will last for a long time =)

On a different note - I apologise for my recent absence, I have spent most of the past week reviving from the 12 hour Ball / packing / saying goodbye to friends. And thank you so much to all my new followers, and all your kind comments, the support is very much appreciated =)

Cambridge se nachvíli znovu oživil po týdnech které jeho obyvatelé strávili v hloubkách jeho milion a jedné knihovny. Jeho znovunalezený život netrval dlouho, jelikož většina z nás studentů už ho opustila a užívá si léto svobody před tím, než zase zalezeme do knihami obložených žaláří tohoto města v říjnu. Ale na malou chvíli se děly samé oslavy a programy byly zaplněny jednou okouzlující párty za druhou.

Tyto fotky jsou z Magdalene májového plesu, který byl před týdnem. Moje College pořádá pravděpodobně nejpohádkovější ze všech plesů, více tradiční než většina, ale opravdu kouzelný. A i když je krásný pro všechny hosty, pro mě je obzvlášť významný, protože na stejný plese před dvěma lety poznamenal začátek vztahu, který doufám, že dlouho potrvá =)

Jinak bych se chtěla omluvit za svou delší nepřítomnost, poslední týden jsem trávila zpamatováním se  z dvanácti hodinového plesu / balením / loučením se s přáateli. A děkuji mockrát všem novým 'followers' a také za všechny milé komenty, vaší podporu si velmi cením =)

PROJECT 100

I took up the 365 project (a photo a day for a year) a few years ago and quickly realised that it was much too ambitious, especially on a busy work schedule and an inconsistent internet connection. As much as I would like to take some similar project up again, I know I'll be faced with the same problem come October, when I dive head-first into my final year at university. So I've come up with an alternative - 100 self-portraits before the end of summer. That should allow for enough time to improve photographically and creatively, but also cut me some slack for skipping days that are a tad too busy. Anyone care to join? If so, let me know =) I'll be posting mine here on flickr.

Před pár lety jsem zkusila projekt 365 (fotku denně po celý rok) a rychle jsem si uvědomila, že to bylo trovhu moc ambiciózní, obzvlášť s hektickým množstvím práce a tenkrát nespolehlivým internetovým spojením. Ač bych se ráda znovu pokusila o podobný projekt, vím, že by mě čekaly stejné problémy, jakmile bych se v říjnu po létě vrátila na poslední ročník univerzity. Tak jsem si vymyslela alternativu - 100 autoportrétů do konce léta. To by mělo být dostatečně času na to se zlepšit fotograficky i kreativně, a zároveň si budu moct odpustit pár příliš zaneprázdněných dnů. Chcete se přidat? Four days in the South of France were a lovely refresher towards the end of exams, though I do feel that a few good meals and good bottles of wine later, it was no longer the weight of my hand luggage that concerned me as much as my own... Anyway, all worth it, right? (The last shot is of my momma =P)

Čtyři dny na jihu Francie byly krásným odpočinkem ke konci zkoušek, i když přiznávám, že po kopách dobrého jídla a pár flaškách dobrého vína už jsem se nezajimala tolik o váhu svých zavazadel, jako o tu svoji... Každopádně to stálo zato, ne? (Poslední fotka je mojí mamky=P)

I'm finally getting through the last pictures from California (I apologise if these posts are getting a tad repetitive!), which has taken much too long! Life has been so busy recently with finishing up exams, travelling packing up my belongings in France and getting myself back over to England, where I am now happily planted with Jack and a whole summer to plan out =) I promise to post something a little more up to date very soon. (Please excuse the dodgy expressions on some of these shots!)

Konečně procházím posledními fotkami z Kalifornie (omlouvám se, jestli se tyto články už trošku opakují!), což mi trvalo příliš dlouho! Život byl v poslední době dost hektický - jsem neustále na cestách, právě jsem dodělala zkoušky, balila jsem si všechny věci ve Francii a nějak jsem se se vším dopracovala zpět do Anglie, kde teď jsem šťastně usazená s Jackem a začínám plánovat léto =) Slibuji, že sem brzy dám něco aktuálnějšího. (Prosím odpusťte ty podivné výrazy na některých z těchto fotek!)
