TESTING THE WATERS

Having taken time off from personal photography and blogging for the past 9 months has left me in a somewhat uninspired place. My portfolio looks stale to me - the photos are either old or impersonal. I'm slowly dipping my toes into the creative pool again, testing the waters, seeing if I can remember how to swim. This shot is a result of that - one lovely Cambridge afternoon, I grabbed Julia and Jack and we went for a wonder with the camera. This shot doesn't go with the rest of the shoot in the slightest, but for some reason, I love it.

INFINITY + BEYOND

So many Jacks, it makes me dizzy! This was fun to photograph + composite, although it's a bit of an imperfect Photoshop job, but I have so so so much to do, you can't really blame me. Thus the weird extended absences from the blog. But I'm slowly (very slowly!) getting my act together and getting everything planned and organised like a proper control freak, as it should be. Anyway, I shot this by literally taking a zillion photographs, telling Jack to take a step back and to the side after each one. Unfortunately I didn't have a tripod on me, so this was dodgily hand-shot and then composed / expanded / corrected... Can you tell which of the legs are fake? =P

Tolik Jacků, až se mi z toho motá hlava! Tohle bylo zábavné fotit a sestavovat, i když to neni nejlépe photoshopované, ale já toho mám momentálně tak moc na práci, že mi to musíte odpustit. Proto ty dlouhé nepřítomnosti na blogu. Ale pomalu (velmi pomalu!) začínám vše plánovat a organizovat jako pořádný maniak - tak, jak to má být. Nicméně tento snímek je složený z mnoha fotek - mezi každou z nich jsem řekla Jackovi, aby šel o krok do zadu a do strany. Bohužel jsem sebou neměla stativ, tak jsem to musela pak opravovat / sestavovat / roztahovat ve Photoshopu... Uhadnete, ktéré z těch nohou nejsou pravé? =P

A SEA OF DREAMS

I think this is my 50th post - which is pretty cool, but also doesn't sound like a particularly large number considering the fact that this blog is almost a year old (!!!). And speaking of birthdays, mine is on Tuesday, which is somewhat underwhelming. This picture is a part of my 100 series, the rest of which you can find here.

Myslím, že tohle je můj 50. článek, což je fajn, ale nezní to jako moc velký počet vzhledem k tomu, že tento blog je už skoro rok starý (!!!). Když už mluvíme o narozeninách, moje jsou v úterý, což je poněkud nevzrušující. Tato fotka je jedna ze série projektu 100, zbytek najdete zde.

BORN OF SMOKE

And so Jack and I ventured into the forest, into clouds of smoke that only lasted seconds, to get these shots. There's a video coming too, but being decidedly more of a photographer than a videographer, trying to do both made the experience very swift and somewhat dazed. We'll see what I manage to put together from the video clips, watch this space!=)

A tak jsme se Jackem vydali do lesa, do mraku kouře který trval jen vteřiny, abychom nafotili tyto snímky. Bude také video, ale vzhledem k tomu že jsem spíše fotografka nežli videografka, snažit se dělat oboje najednou byl velmi rychlý a poněkud omámený zážitek. Uvidíme, co se mi podaří dát dohromady z těch videoklipů!=)

BEFORE + AFTER

I often get people asking me to post before+after images of my more edited shots, so I thought I'd get ahead of the game on this one. Jack and I shot this a couple of days ago whilst the weather played up, making us run back and forth trying to save the camera from intermittent showers. I'm adding this to the Project 100 series, the rest of which you can view on Flickr. I haven't made tooo much progress since posting this, but hopefully I'll get a few more shots up soon!

Často se mě lidé ptají, jestli bych se mohla podělit o "před a po" u více upravených fotek, tak se tedy dělím. Toto jsme s Jackem fotili před pár dny při proměnlivém počasí, takže jsme běhali tam a zpátky a snažili se zachránit foťák před neustálými sprškami. Tuhle fotku přidávám do série Projektu 100, na zbytek se můžete mrknout na Flickru. Od tohoto článku jsem se moc neposunula, ale doufám, že to se brzy změní!

HEATWAVE

These pictures are from a beautiful sunny weekend in Cornwall with Jack and his family. I went down to get away from the city for a few days whilst doing an internship in London to compensate a little for having to spend the two sunniest weeks England has (probably) ever seen in an office. How beautiful is the English coast?

Tyto fotky jsou z krásného slunečného víkendu v Cornwall s Jackem a jeho rodinou. Měla jsem stáž v Londýně a chtěla jsem se na pár dní dostat ze města, abych si vynahradila to, že jsem musela trávit dva nejzasluněné víkendy, co Anglie (nejspíš) kdy zažila, v kanceláři. Neni anglické pobřeží krásné?

PROJECT 100

I took up the 365 project (a photo a day for a year) a few years ago and quickly realised that it was much too ambitious, especially on a busy work schedule and an inconsistent internet connection. As much as I would like to take some similar project up again, I know I'll be faced with the same problem come October, when I dive head-first into my final year at university. So I've come up with an alternative - 100 self-portraits before the end of summer. That should allow for enough time to improve photographically and creatively, but also cut me some slack for skipping days that are a tad too busy. Anyone care to join? If so, let me know =) I'll be posting mine here on flickr.

Před pár lety jsem zkusila projekt 365 (fotku denně po celý rok) a rychle jsem si uvědomila, že to bylo trovhu moc ambiciózní, obzvlášť s hektickým množstvím práce a tenkrát nespolehlivým internetovým spojením. Ač bych se ráda znovu pokusila o podobný projekt, vím, že by mě čekaly stejné problémy, jakmile bych se v říjnu po létě vrátila na poslední ročník univerzity. Tak jsem si vymyslela alternativu - 100 autoportrétů do konce léta. To by mělo být dostatečně času na to se zlepšit fotograficky i kreativně, a zároveň si budu moct odpustit pár příliš zaneprázdněných dnů. Chcete se přidat? PROVENCE

Four days in the South of France were a lovely refresher towards the end of exams, though I do feel that a few good meals and good bottles of wine later, it was no longer the weight of my hand luggage that concerned me as much as my own... Anyway, all worth it, right? (The last shot is of my momma =P)

Čtyři dny na jihu Francie byly krásným odpočinkem ke konci zkoušek, i když přiznávám, že po kopách dobrého jídla a pár flaškách dobrého vína už jsem se nezajimala tolik o váhu svých zavazadel, jako o tu svoji... Každopádně to stálo zato, ne? (Poslední fotka je mojí mamky=P)

SAN DIEGO

I'm finally getting through the last pictures from California (I apologise if these posts are getting a tad repetitive!), which has taken much too long! Life has been so busy recently with finishing up exams, travelling packing up my belongings in France and getting myself back over to England, where I am now happily planted with Jack and a whole summer to plan out =) I promise to post something a little more up to date very soon. (Please excuse the dodgy expressions on some of these shots!)

Konečně procházím posledními fotkami z Kalifornie (omlouvám se, jestli se tyto články už trošku opakují!), což mi trvalo příliš dlouho! Život byl v poslední době dost hektický - jsem neustále na cestách, právě jsem dodělala zkoušky, balila jsem si všechny věci ve Francii a nějak jsem se se vším dopracovala zpět do Anglie, kde teď jsem šťastně usazená s Jackem a začínám plánovat léto =) Slibuji, že sem brzy dám něco aktuálnějšího. (Prosím odpusťte ty podivné výrazy na některých z těchto fotek!)

HIGHWAY 1

Single-handedly some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever experienced. California is so so so lucky in its diversity - the first time I visited I went skiing and sunbathing on the beach in the same week, this time round we drove from windy San Francisco to desert heat in LA! The coast is unbelievable, it took us 5 hours to drive down a 2 hour stretch of the famous Highway 1 between Carmel and San Luis Obispo just because I insisted on stopping at every turnout to take more pictures! I'd say this trip also included some of my more admirable driving moments, seeing as my momma forgot her driving license! =P
P.S. Tigerheart is now a part of a Czech / Slovak online magazine called The Merge, so now comes my attempt at translating this into (what should be) my mother tongue! =)

Bezesporu některé z nejkrásnějších míst, které jsem kdy zažila. Kalifornie má takové štěstí v její pestrosti - když jsem tam byla poprvé, byla jsem lyžovat a opalovala se na pláži ve stejném týdnu, a tentokrát jsem jela z větrného San Francisca do pouštních veder v LA! Jejich pobřeží je tak neuvěřitelně krásné, že nám dvouhodinový kus známé Dálnice 1 z Carmel do San Luis Obispo trval pět hodin, jelikož jsem se musela při každé příležitosti zastavit a fotit! Řekla bych také, že některé z mých obdivuhodnějších momentů za volantem se staly na této cestě, jelikož si máma zapomněla řidičák!=P
Mimochodem se Tigerheart stal částí online časopisu The Merge, proto se tedy snažím psát česky! V bližších dnech zde najdete i překlady předchozích článků =)

SAN FRANCISCO (PART 2)

The historical trolley ride through San Francisco was such a highlight - it reignited child-like sensations in me that I'd long forgotten, never mind making me question the sanity of the person who decided it would be a good idea to build a city on those ridges. I have no idea what San Franciscans did before the invention of automatic cars - I would have literally died if I had to take those hills on with a gear stick. Cheeky touristy shot with the Golden Gate Bridge at the end - but hey, sometimes being a tourist is fun. Actually, I spend most of my time being a tourist. The advantages of being a mixed background kid =)

SWEET HOME

I've been away from him for a day and I'm already missing this boy. We took this picture sometime in snowy February in our College in Cambridge and I've just had a play with adding feathers in Photoshop =)

As my time in the US draws to an end, I am finally sharing some photos with you. California is an incredible place (despite the fact that it didn't completely live up to its nickname of "the sunny state" this week) and I will most definitely be back as soon as I can! Hopefully I'll manage to jailbreak the loverboi from exams / work the next time=) These are a few shots from our first day full day in San Francisco - such an incredible city - we scaled pretty much the full length of its rolling hills on foot, what a workout! I'm flying back to the UK soon, but more from this trip to come!
